Three Ideas to Help You Love Yourself a Little Extra Today

Let’s face it, sometimes we forget to be nice to ourselves. Maybe we neglect our own needs, cast thoughts of judgement or criticism, or minimize our genuine or heartfelt compliments from others.

What’s stopping you from loving yourself a little extra today? What would that even look like?

Most of us can make some kind of enhancement in the quality of the loving connection we have with ourselves. Below, I’ve outlined 3 simple strategies that can help you feel a little bit softer toward yourself today.

  1. Connect with one accomplishment that you’re proud of.

Think about a time when you overcame an obstacle or achieved a goal you set. What are the specific strengths it took for you to make that happen? Take a moment to admire yourself for the awesome qualities that make you who you are.

Take it to the next level by: writing down 3 strengths or qualities you like about yourself and why.

  2. Name 3 things you are grateful for.

See if you can pause and consider what you are thankful for about yourself or in your life. It doesn’t matter how big or small - just acknowledge 3 pieces of your world that you genuinely appreciate in this moment. Let yourself feel the amazing sensation of knowing these wonderful gifts are already yours.

Take it to the next level by: writing down 100 things for which you feel thankful. This exercise challenges you to get specific about even the tinniest gratitudes you may have never noticed before.

  3. Celebrate you.

Find a way to treat yourself kindly or show compassion or appreciation to your body. Pay yourself a compliment and indulge in something that feels good like a bubble bath, mug of hot tea, self-massage or masturbation, or soothing music. As you enjoy this time remind yourself, “I am good enough.”

Take it to the next level by: writing down 5 positive affirmations about your worth and your value. Take a moment to pause and truly connect with the meaning of these words.

Just like with anything else, improving self-love takes time and practice. It starts with small changes that build on one another in manageable steps. On the days when you need a boost, think about these three tips. Small steps and consistency will help you find your way toward a better relationship with you.
